Julep Maven's subscription program has entered its 3rd spring palette [My 3rd Maven Anniversary is tomorrow!], and I'm still as in love as I was on day 1. This month is the "Vivid Brights" collection, and I can PROMISE you I was not the least bit disappointed. Some of these are in fact SO bright and vivid, they threw the saturation levels off on my camera! As a result, I had to edit the saturation in a few shots to put the polish back as close as possible to its actual colour; And in the process my skin morphed into some pretty strange colours. Caitlin is a true Hot Pink cream finish with a subtle gold microshimmer. Shown in 3 coats with no top or base coat, the finish is a natural shine without being overly glossy. The perfect pink to wear on hands or toes! Applied fantastically, had absolutely no issues with streaking, clumping, bubbling, or smudging! Maren is an adorable and delicate Bubble-gum pink, with a strong ultra-blue microshimmer throughout. Though cream in nature, Maren is fairly sheer, as shown in 3 coats with no base or top coat. Though easy to make fairly opaque, Maren could easily be used as a topper for a variety of undie-colours to dramatically alter the look and colour. No application issues aside from it being semi-sheer in nature, and finishes to a fairly glossy shine. Mariska is a Shocking Neon Orange matte finish cream with an almost imperceptible shimmer to it. Shown in 3 coats with no top or base coat, this picture was taken a couple of minutes before the polish had finished setting. Below, you can see the actual matte effect it has once completely dry. Application was decent; I happened to get a flared brush [A form of brush defect] which caused the thick ridges you see on my thumb nail. It dries quickly, as did this entire collection, so when I went back to do the second stroke on the thumb, the ridge at the end of the flared brush had already dried too much. A beautiful colour all the same, and one I will continue to use heavily, even WITH the wonky brush I happened to get. [Please note I have heard no one else mention a defective brush with their Mariska. I would assume mine was just an anomaly, and no representation of the brush you will receive with your Mariska.] Sunny is an extremely silky electric yellow metallic finish, shown here in 3 coats with no top or base coats. This picture is one of the most difficult ones I had to work with; Sunny is a VERY vivid colour, and no amount of saturation play would put it back where it needs to be. It's a slightly green-leaning yellow, with a warm orange microshimmer. It applied somewhat sheer, and reminds me of the the first Maven box I ever got. In that box was the yellow called Nessa, which this greatly reminds me of. I will probably feature a comparison of the two in the next day or two, that's how close it feels. Other than the classic streak from metallic polishes, there were no issues at all with application! Next to Sunny, this is probably the other most difficult to photograph polish of this collection. Unlike Sunny, I was not able to bring this colour anywhere near to the tone it should reflect. I will try and take some outdoor shots and post them with the Sunny/Nessa comparison. Tatum is a Granny Smith yellow-green metallic finish, with a similar warm orange microshimmer to Sunny's. As it is also a metallic polish, it had the classic streaking as well, but absolutely no problems otherwise! Very silky in application, and dried very quickly! Phoebe is another metallic, the last in this particular collection, and shown in 3 coats no top or base coat has a fairly glossy finish. It's a teal blue-green, and seems to be the more metallic counterpart to Julep's Angelina. Application was silky, but dried very quickly and opaque! Bailey was the polish in this collection that hands down surprised me the most. I expected a shocking blue cream; But in reality it's a [UK Blue! #BBN Final Four WOO!] cobalt blue jelly finish polish! I have no others like this in my collection, so this was a huge shock. Bailey blue could easily be my new favourite blue polish; With the right undie, and a super glossy topcoat, [neither of which were used here] this could easily pass as a great gel polish, NO UV lamp required! In thin coats, it could be used as a topper to alter other colours, but I honestly loved it just as it was. Maybe an undie though, I always hate seeing my nail lines underneath. If you forced me to choose the second most surprising polish in this collection, it would be Kayla. What I again thought would be a cream of sorts, turned out to be a jelly-like sheer multi-chrome/shifting polish that has a beautiful smokey blue-lavender base, with ultra-violet microshimmer throughout, causing it to shift from blurple to violet as you move. My mother's favourite gemstone is the Mystic Fire Topaz, and the entire time this was on my fingers I kept seeing that gemstone instead. The only thing this polish needs is a green shift [which, if you play with it you might be able to achieve with the right undie!]. Excellent application, fairly sheer, totally layerable and loveable. Flora is a vibrant violet cream polish with blue microglitter throughout, opaque in 3 coats as shown without base or top coats. Very pretty, applied just as smoothly as this entire collection, and the shocking blue microglitter is a very noticable touch that sets it on fire! As an Added bonus, the Add-on Polish! Okay guys, I'm gonna give it to you straight: I'm psychic. How do I know? The instant I saw this add-on polish, Felicia, I added 2 to my cart and saved without thinking or questioning it. I knew I would love it; And when another opened up after it sold out in less than 15 minutes, I used my last add-on slot to take that one too. And now, I want them all.
No other polish, Julep or otherwise, can compare to this. The application was SUBLIME. I mean that. The coats were perfect, the strokes smoothed themselves together better than any polish has ever done for me, my natural nail ridges completely leveled out, and as if that wasn't enough this polish dried to a high shine glossy finish that just screams perfection. Felicia is a one-of-a-kind mint green cream polish with small and ultra-small black glitter throughout. Yes, you're looking at my favourite ice cream on my fingers, because this is exactly what my mint chocolate chip with oreo chunk ice cream looks like. I love. LOVE. This polish!
